Aurora Reservoir: Swimming, Kayaking, and Fishing

If you're looking for a place to cool off in summer or ice fish in winter, head to the Aurora Reservoir and enjoy Colorado's great outdoors.  With a wide variety of fun activities including archery, paddleboarding, boating, fishing, and SCUBA, the reservoir is also an excellent venue for family gatherings, picnics, and photo shoots. Practice your backstroke in the seasonal swim beach open Memorial Day through September, and frolic around the 800-acre body of water all summer long. The trail around the reservoir is about 8.5 miles long and is a great option for bike rides, training for races, or a quiet walk in a serene setting.

Day Pass:  $10/vehicle

Hours -

Summer: 5 am to 9:30 am, Fall: 6:30 am to 7 pm, Winter: 7 am to 6 pm, Spring: 6 am to 8:30 pm. Hours vary per month.

  • Can you rent kayaks or paddleboards at Aurora Resrvoir?

    Yes, starting the Saturday before Memorial Day, rentals for kayaks and stand up paddleboards are available from 8 am - 4 pm, weather permitting. They are equipped with 31 kayaks, and 42 stand up paddleboards and are on a first come, first served basis. Each rental is per person, there is no sharing allowed, and each renter must have a valid driver’s license and must be over 18 years old. Children under 13 can operate a kayak or board with a parent or guardian on the water with them. All rentals include life jackets which must be worn at all times. Rentals are $15/hour for Kayak or Stand Up Paddleboard. 
  • Is Aurora Reservoir open for swimming?

    Yes, the Swim Beach at Aurora Reservoir is open from Memorial Day Weekend through September 30, perfect for hot summer days in Colorado. There are lifeguards on duty from 10 am - 6 pm, all other times are at your own risk. Visitors can enjoy the beach area during park hours for swimming, picnics, and sunbathing; however, grilling is not permitted.
